saline removal

what is saline tattoo removal?

a specialized, all-natural saline solution (we use li-ft by li pigments) is implanted over your existing permanent makeup or small tattoo with machine or hand tool. li-ft contains finely milled sea salt, purified water, lemon seed extract, orange seed extract, and aloe. implanting the solution into the skin breaks up the healed pigment and lifts the pigment out of the skin by osmosis immediately and over a span of 8 weeks.

os-mo-sis
/äzˈmōsəs/
a process by which molecules of a solvent tend to pass through a semipermeable membrane from a less concentrated solution into a more concentrated one, thus equalizing the concentrations on each side of the membrane.

the pigment is slowly pulled to the surface of the skin and heals into a scab. when the scab falls off, that pigment falls off with it, leaving a lightened tattoo.

how is this different than laser?

laser tattoo removal works by an entirely different mechanism. a laser is an intense beam of monochromatic light, causing a lot of pain and potential scarring. when we see color, we are really seeing certain wavelengths of light bouncing off the surface of an object. the rest of the wavelengths are absorbed by the object. so, each color of your tattoo will need to be targeted with the correct wavelength of laser to penetrate and break up that particular color of pigment. over time, your body's immune system will absorb the pigment and you will see the lightened tattoo.

what are the primary differences between saline and laser removal?

  1. WITH LASER, ALL OF THE REMOVED TATTOO INK IS ABSORBED INTO THE BODY. WITH SALINE REMOVAL, MOST OF THE TATTOO INK IS LIFTED UP THROUGH THE SURFACE OF THE SKIN.
if you're not sure of the quality of the ink used for your tattoo, this can be an important distinction.

  2. EACH LASER TATTOO REMOVAL MACHINE ONLY EMITS CERTAIN WAVELENGTHS OF LIGHT. SALINE REMOVAL IS COLOR-AGNOSTIC.
this means that certain machines can only break up certain colors of ink. newer machines are more likely to work on the widest range of colors. the beautiful thing about saline removal is that it works on all colors of pigment.

  3. LASER TATTOO REMOVAL CANNOT TARGET WHITE INK (INCLUDED IN MANY SATURATED, LIGHT COLORS OF TATTOO INK AND PERMANENT MAKEUP PIGMENTS.) AGAIN, SALINE IS COLOR-AGNOSTIC.
when an object appears white, it is reflecting the entire spectrum of visible wavelengths of light. it is not absorbing the light. this means you cannot target it with a laser.

  4. LASER IS OFTEN MORE EXPENSIVE THAN SALINE REMOVAL.
laser can run you $350-$500 per session. if you are undergoing sessions by a laser machine that cannot target all of the colors used in your tattoo, there may be certain colors that won't go away!
